FreePPS

Magisk KSU APatch

Your Xiaomi phone's hardware supports universal PPS fast charging. Your third-party GaN charger supports PPS. But plug them together and you're stuck at a fraction of the speed — because Xiaomi's firmware deliberately throttles PPS when it doesn't detect an official Xiaomi charger. FreePPS by Seyud removes that firmware restriction at the system level, freeing your device to charge at full USB PD PPS speeds with any compatible charger — no proprietary lock-in required.

What FreePPS Unlocks

Universal PPS fast charging on Xiaomi devices — no proprietary chargers, no restrictions, full USB PD 3.0 speed from any PPS-compatible charger.

Unlocks Universal PPS

Removes the firmware-level throttling that Xiaomi applies when a non-official charger is detected. Your device's charging IC can now negotiate PPS parameters freely with any third-party USB PD 3.0 PPS charger — no proprietary handshake needed.

Efficient, Cooler Charging

PPS adjusts voltage in 20mV steps continuously — unlike fixed-voltage charging that wastes power as heat. By delivering exactly the voltage the battery needs at each moment, PPS reduces resistive heating during the charge cycle, keeping the device cooler and improving long-term battery health.

Third-Party Charger Freedom

Use any USB PD PPS-certified charger — Anker, Baseus, Ugreen, Belkin, GaN chargers from any brand — at full PPS-negotiated speeds. No more being forced to buy Xiaomi-branded accessories for optimal charging performance.

Dynamic Power Negotiation

With PPS fully enabled, your charger and phone continuously negotiate the optimal voltage and current throughout the entire charge cycle — high current at low state-of-charge, tapering off intelligently as the battery fills. The result is faster overall charge time from empty to full.

Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO

Targets all devices running MIUI and HyperOS across Xiaomi's device lineup — including Mi series, Redmi Note/Number series, and POCO phones. Any Xiaomi-platform device with PPS-capable charging hardware and a compatible kernel benefits from this module.

Ultralight — 193 KB

The entire module is under 200 KB — a lean set of scripts and configuration files with zero runtime overhead. The charging change is applied at the system property / driver configuration level and has no impact on battery life, performance, or CPU usage.

PPS vs Standard Charging — Why It Matters

Before USB PD PPS, fast chargers worked with a small set of fixed voltage steps — 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V, 20V. When charging, the phone picks the closest voltage, and the charging IC regulates the rest. This regulation process wastes energy as heat, meaning a 65W charger effectively delivers less than 65W to the battery.

Fixed Voltage (Standard PD)

Charger picks from 5/9/12/15/20V fixed steps. Phone regulates to battery voltage internally — energy lost as heat. Battery gets less than rated wattage. Charging is faster than 5V but less efficient than possible.

PPS (Programmable)

Charger adjusts voltage in 20mV steps to match exactly what the battery needs right now. Near-zero regulation loss. Maximum wattage reaches the battery. Cooler charging, faster overall time.

Xiaomi's own proprietary HyperCharge (formerly TurboCharge) achieves high wattages by using custom voltage negotiation — similar in concept to PPS but using a proprietary protocol. FreePPS brings the same fundamental benefit (dynamic voltage matching) through the open, universal USB PD PPS standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

FreePPS is a Magisk module by Seyud that enables the universal PPS (Programmable Power Supply) fast charging protocol on Xiaomi/MIUI/HyperOS devices. Xiaomi firmware restricts PPS speeds when non-official chargers are detected. FreePPS removes these restrictions so any PPS-compatible third-party charger can deliver full fast charging speeds.

PPS (Programmable Power Supply) is part of the USB Power Delivery 3.0/3.1 standard that enables dynamic, real-time voltage and current negotiation between charger and device. Unlike fixed-voltage charging, PPS adjusts in 20mV steps continuously — delivering exactly the power the battery needs at each moment, resulting in faster, more efficient, and cooler charging.

Xiaomi developed proprietary fast charging protocols (HyperCharge, TurboCharge) for very high wattages through their own chargers. To protect this ecosystem and ensure charging safety guarantees, Xiaomi firmware typically limits or throttles PPS speeds when non-Xiaomi chargers are detected — even though the underlying hardware supports full universal PPS. FreePPS removes this firmware-level throttling.

FreePPS targets Xiaomi (Mi), Redmi, and POCO devices running MIUI or HyperOS. Compatibility depends on the device's charging IC and kernel support for PPS. Most Xiaomi flagships and mid-range phones from 2020 onwards have PPS-capable charging hardware. Check the GitHub releases page for device-specific compatibility notes.

Yes. FreePPS enables PPS on the device side, but you also need a charger that supports USB PD 3.0 with PPS to benefit. Any certified USB PD PPS charger — from Anker, Baseus, Ugreen, Belkin, or any GaN charger with PPS support — will work. If your charger only supports standard USB PD without PPS, FreePPS will have no effect on charging speed.
